First overhaul the IH dealer mechanic installed an M & W high power piston and sleeve kit, M & W Govenor kit and shaved some off the head, exchanged the magneto for a Delco distributor and did some carburetor modifications. I don't know if it dyno'ed 50 horse after that, it was sure a lot stronger...but never sounded just right so in less than a year the same mechanic at the IH Dealership put in an overbore IH kit (don't think it was firecraters, they didn't have them yet then...high altitude pistons I think) that along with another valve grind, head and carburetor work was supposed to bring it up to Super M power..and I guess it did, it then dyno'ed over 50 horse with a new tune up of the other non-standard stuff it already had from the first soup up...We wanted all we could get, we were doing a lot of custom silo filling with a field chopper and big wagons that pulled hard when loaded. We had 14-30 6 ply Goodyear Super Sure Grip rear tires on it with 75% cloride fill and 6.50-16 8 plys up front...it was a pretty good horse. You could pull the 3-16's faster than ever...4th gear if you wanted, but just too fast... 3rd anywhere. Good thing gas was cheap then, it was thirsty...about like my 60 horse John Deere G toy I've got now...4 gallons plus an hour plowing.

An improperly torqued capscrew on an engine head or a shear bolt that is too hard on the driving shaft of a bushog can create havoc and make an expensive and uncalled for repair. Lets examine the purpose and design of these fasteners in order to ensure their proper use. Fasteners are probably one of the aspects of mechanics that is given the least amount of thought.
