If the crank is only 3 or 4 thousands out of round, you can put a little valve grinding compound on the crank and bolt up the rods and spin the engine. Then remove a shim as needed to snug it up and spin it some more. A slow process but you can make it fit as good as new. Some plastiguage is also required.
