It could be obsolete material or profile (looking at the skylight panel in section) We have the same problem in our oldest barn, and had to be creative to get an overlap joint with sealant that works or holds up, these are a maintenance issue or can be, leaks, wind etc. The ones we have are a green fiborous, opaque kind of panel that you can't see through, but lets light in, these and even the new ones we put in are very brittle, personally I don't like em, they are a source of leaks, but free light ..... always a snag to consider.
This section being rebuilt has the old aluminum panels (peeled up and far left) that match the old green ones which are mostly gone now anyway. Cannot find this profile anymore.
