Some folks bend a brake line to reroute the fuel line away from the exhaust manifold as was done with the 63 - 64 thousand series tractors to reduce cost.
That said, your problem is not vapor lock. By definition, a gravity flow fuel system cannot vapor lock.
If you have issues with fuel boiling in the tank, be certain that the muffler heat shield is in place, the ignition timing is set properly (and that the centrifugal advance mechanism is functioning properly) and, most importantly avoid gasoline with ethanol (if you can).
All of my vintage Fords have the OEM fuel line behind the manifold, all are worked hard on hot days and I have not had issues relating to fuel line routing.
