No, I haven"t taken a life with a gun. However, twice in my life my possession of a gun and my obvious willingness to use it has kept me and my family from serious harm. I think that is a major part of the point being made in the article.
The fact that you have NEVER needed a gun is not exactly statistically significant. You have probably never needed a brain surgeon or a heart transplant or adult diapers, but that doesn"t make much of an argument for never needing them.
guns/weapons are not anywhere near to being a perfect solution. However, given the nature of humans, fear of consquences is sometimes the only thing that restrains certain portions of the population. Somtimes that restraint is not reliable, but it sure beats appealing to their sense of moral values.
