Thanks guys, that makes good sense. The depression plus a crop failure. My parents told of those times. They were young and just starting out farming. One of those early to mid 30's seasons, they planted the crop in spring and got no rain until fall when the dry seeds finally emerged. Needless to say, that one was a total failure.
