When we tested the German Leopard and the M1A1 Abrams back in the late 1970's we used an old gas version M88 hooked to the last trailer. We need this when running drawbar pull in the lower gears. A heavy drawbar was used to connect the rear of the M88 to the trailer. A test driver would run a partial stall in one of the forward gears holding the same engine speed. We could then use the controls in the field dynanmometer and trailers to set a certain road speed. Usually from the highest road speed in low range until we reached a stall.
