I never said there was no earnings requirement in order to be entitled to Social Security benefits; there is. You have to have a minimum number of quarters of coverage which is determined by law. To earn quarters you pay a certain amount into the "Trust funds." I don't have the amount required to earn a quarter at hand, but it's available on SSA's website. Furthermore, to be insured for disability, and that's what Social Security is, insurance, you must a 'current connection' or 20 quarters in the last 40 calendar quarters. It can easily happen that earnings are not credited correctly; therefore, it is extremely important that you retain payroll records for 4 years at a minimum.
