The Power shift tractors had hard shifting issues when cold. They shifted harder than the 15 speed they replaced. The Power Quads are just about bullet proof. The only advantage of the Power shift is a faster road gear than the 16 speed power Quad. The newer 20 speed power quads have the faster road speed.
A JD 7800 with only 4000 hours should not have any issues with the transmission. I like the power quads over the power shifts.
