Yeah, I know - it's sad - Cairo was once a bustling beautiful city. I remember riding through Cairo about 1953 and seeing the first bale of cotton I'd ever seen. I think there used to be a gin on the north edge of town. I've worked there a few times - put new traffic signals in by the old State Police station on the south end and also at the 3/51 intersection on the north end - probably around 1994 or so. Comer was a mess - your BIL probably remembers him - he was unforgettable. Comer was the engineer in charge of a nice street restoration project in the old downtown area of Cairo - new brick street, period lighting, etc. Looked like it could be near the area of your photo. Today's Featured Article - Show Coverage: Argyle and Mt. Pleasant Labor Day Weekend Shows - by Cindy Ladage. The last fling before summer fades into fall and we get busy in the fields are the annual Labor Day tractor shows. Beginning on September 5th and running through the 7th, the Argyle Antique Gas and Engine Show is held at the Argyle State Park. Located in West Central Illinois, the pine forest was the setting for the opening of the 22nd show.
