Yeah, I know - it's sad - Cairo was once a bustling beautiful city. I remember riding through Cairo about 1953 and seeing the first bale of cotton I'd ever seen. I think there used to be a gin on the north edge of town. I've worked there a few times - put new traffic signals in by the old State Police station on the south end and also at the 3/51 intersection on the north end - probably around 1994 or so. Comer was a mess - your BIL probably remembers him - he was unforgettable. Comer was the engineer in charge of a nice street restoration project in the old downtown area of Cairo - new brick street, period lighting, etc. Looked like it could be near the area of your photo.
