I don't see pickups loaded to capacity with either weight or trailer load on a daily or weekly basis. Most are driven as personal transportation with 1-2 people and a lunchbox or tool kit for a load.
For trips to the dump with junk, moving small equipment and general running around. A pickup is not required.
For the rare few who own pickups and haul cattle trailers or house trailers. You are a very small minority.
Check the payload of a 1/2 ton, 1500 series truck. A two wheel landscaping trailer will haul more load with a lower lift or drive on height. And have a longer and wider cargo area.
More flexibly in being able to drop the load and go, too.
