The pump can be changed so they have adequate low end torque. They did come with just a two pinion ring gear. Most have been changed. The 1000 rpm only pto is the reason they are cheap. If you can deal with the pto, the price seems right. A 4430 will cost you at least 3000 more, and will not do as much work. You do get a 540 pto though. 30 40 50 55 60 series JD ride as good as any other tractor. Vic
