Last winter we had an ice storm come through, power was out for 5 days. We hauled water up from the stream for the animals. We keep water in the house, in milk jugs for for emergencies like this. Furnace is dou-fuel so heated with wood no difference there, oil is too expensive and blown down trees are easy to get. We have a 2200 watt generator which ran the fridge and occasionally a microwave oven. Lights were oil lamps. Grilled out almost every meal. Beautiful thing was no TV, no computer, no radio, no distractions, and plenty of family time. The kids decided we should turn the power off ourselves for a week this winter. Amazing how a little ice can bring a family closer together.
