500 is an industrial version of the 3020 farm tractor. Waterloo design. Not great when it comes to finding parts and can be very expensive to fix - especially if a PowerShift.

If you want a big Deere backhoe, you're better off with a 410 or 510 that share almost nothing with the 500.

310 is built upon the the Deere 1020 farm tractor platform. Dubuque design. Lighter and smaller then the 500 but with much better parts availability along with a trans and engine that are still current.
