You are finding out why there are impact driver bits just like impact sockets. These newer impact drivers are getting real powerful. The regular bits are not made to take the sudden force an impact driver puts on them. They are designed for straight torque. You should not use regular bits in an impact driver. They can shatter and cause bodily harm, not joking.
My oldest son got an impact driver for a gift two years ago. He just used his regular Dewalt bits. He was using the torx bit to drive four inch screws into seasoned pine lumber. It shattered. A big piece of it went into his left hand. It cut a ligament to his middle finger. He had to have several surgeries on his hand. It still gives him problems.
I made all of my kids get the correct bits for the correct tool. We got together and ordered them from Granger's. We spray paint the impact bits red. That way we know if we have the right ones in the impact drivers.
