I don't believe market demand it the cause (excuse) anymore. Around here, they used to jump the price of gas up on Thursdays to stick it to the week end drivers. That's not cause and effect. That's effect before there's any cause.
Market demand cannot explain why one gas station is 20 to 30 cents a gallon higher than one a few blocks away.
Plus, gas is 35% to 50% more per gallon than it was 3 yrs ago. I don't think demand has increased anywhere near that much.
