Used to buy and sell quite a few grinder mixers. To shine up a rusty one I found that soybeans worked better than shelled corn to shine them up.
Like the others have posted. I would be more worried about the bearings/gear boxes being locked up. Also look at the bottom of the supplement auger and mixing hopper they rust out if left out very much.
What brand of grinder is it??? The Artsway and International ones with the elbows in the unloading auger that the feed has too go around are real fussy about being rusty. They will plug up if they are rusty.
It seems that good grinder mixers are going up in price. Years ago they where selling cheap.
