I had one similar to that years ago that came off of a 1920�s or 1930�s Gravel pump, it was used to raise and lower the suction pipe (stinger) on the pump. There was an A frame on the back of the boat that the cable went up over and as they pumped they would use the winch to lower the stinger until it was almost straight down from the boat, that was about 20 foot depth on this boat.
