On the note of the Navy blackpowder, try to get a Uberti repro, as opposed to a Pietta. I have two of the piettas, the quality control on them is all over the place, my 1851 Navy is a POS, the parts were ill-fitted, the hammer hung up in the frame, the OD on the nipples was too big to fit #11 caps, and it had horrific internal fit & finish, the 1860 Army .44 is well made, and has never missed a beat. The Ubertis seem to be more consistant.
A cap & ball pistol is the most fun I`ve had with a gun, and almost as cheap to shoot as a .22, just because you don`t burn up nearly so many rounds.
