Under the two screw side cover there is a pointer. You turn engine until the line on cam of pump is lined up with the under side of that pointer and you should be at about 14 degrees btdc on the front pulley of engine. You need to take off the four bolt front cover in front of pump and the pump drive shaft is a fairly tight fit on shaft. Also, shaft has a half moon key so watch that. I have a tool to pull gear loose from shaft but a tap on end should get it to come loose. Front seal will no doubt be the culprit and may have a groove in the shaft. If engine ran good before no need to have a complete repair done on pump like pump shop will want to talk you into. Spendy.
