Not trying to be a wise guy, but with a mag the battery has nothing to do with the ignition, if you run the starter on 12 volt with a 6 volt starter it may spin the engine fast enough that the impulse in the mag will not work and that will make it start harder. If the mag is good and hot you can just tip them over with a crank and they will fire right up. I would tune it up and try the 6 volt starter first.
