I tried by hand one time after drinking half of a case of one liter german dark beers (dopplebach) and failed miserably. I thought that I was King Kong Bundy, but that tractor tire not only proved me wrong, but whipped my rear end handedly. When I got out of the hospital, I gave up drinking and never tried again.
Like the others said, use a machine. Its far more effective, far less expensive in the long run, and far less painful the day and years after. Not to mention that your friends, family, neighbors, and doctor won't nickname you "Stupid", like mine did me.
