I have planted spring wheat every year all my life. I'm in So. Mn. Here we plant it as soon as ground is fit. The earlier the better. If you plant it after may 1st you will really lose yield. It has to be kept separate from winter wheat. I haul all mine to flour mill about 40 miles from here. Everything has to be just right at mill. High protein, but not to high, test weight above certain level, moisture just right. Deliver with semi-truck only. Now that I'm writing it, it reminds me that it is a pita. And if semi is one pound over 80,000 gross he will be rejected too.
