Just about any four cylinder IH motor starting with a Cub and ending with a 650 gas or diesel or 504 will work and bolt up. I am not going to add them up, but it could be 40 or more models built between '55 and sometime in the '70's if off a Cub. The drive and housisng will retro-fit back to '39.
My F400 uses one from a 240. If it looks like it will fit, you can buy it with confidence although the nylon gear could be stripped. Of course, the donor tractor had to have been equipped with a tach.
There is one on eBay right now. Closes Wednesday at around 8pm Eastern time. Search on Farmall 400. Marty2374 is the seller. You may have to pay around $100 for the cast iron housing and pot-metal tach-drive insert because many people want a tach and the hardware fits so many tractors. If it is no good, eBay will refund the bid and shipping through their Buyer Protection Policy. Buy the tach cable too.
You can recoup some of your money by reselling the distributor which won't be calibrated for the 504. Your current distributor will plug right into the housing.

Elliott said while this
