For the most part, I agree with the others. Increasing the cold cranking output of the battery will cause it to last longer at discharge. Thats true. The point that your neighbor may be trying to make, is that one may gain a false sense of invincibility that might cause them to do damage to things like a starter because one may run it into the ground, burn it or wiring up.
Generally speaking, increasing CCA is a good thing. Can doing so cause problems? Doing so can give one the ability to cause problems if common sense isn't used along with it.
