I guess you could send an email to Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and ask him. Might be quite a wait for a reply though.
I assume you recall his wonderful poem:

I shot an arrow into the air,
It fell to earth, I knew not where;
For, so swiftly it flew, the sight
Could not follow it in its flight.
