: i said to a JD guy i would pull him with my H farmall do i stand a chance I'm gonna generally agree with most of what you've already been told. A lot of it depends on how you are going to "pull" against this JD tractor, and what you're going to pull. The JD will likely weigh more, and have more horsepower. It will also generate MUCH more torque at low rpms. However..... as someone else pointed out, TRACTION is often a big equalizer in these matters. Another variable is the condition of older equipment of this type. A lot of these old Farmalls and quite a few of the older JD's have been "fiddled with" to the point that they no longer behave quite like they did when they left the factory. A few years ago I hitched a neighbor's H to a 5-wagon train loaded with corn that had to be moved immediately. Ignoring my Father's shout to let him un-pin the back two wagons, I put the little Farmall in 1st gear, got things moving, double-clutched to 2nd, and eventually shifted to 3rd, with well over 850 bushels of corn in tow. I grew up on an H, but the one we had was NEVER as agressive as that one! I'm not sure what modifications it may have had, but it was a TIGER when hitched to a load! A good H is a very fine tractor, whether it outpulls the bigger JD or not!
