Only deuce and a half I had experience with had it's military clothes on. In training and in the national guard in the 1960s they were using Korean war vintage GMCs with 24 volt electric system, gas motors with waterproof ignition, and hydramatic transmissions. Not much speed and they developed interesting vibrations on the road.
A surface mining operation near me had WW 2 surplus GMC hardtop dump trucks in the early 1950s until they wore them out. These had straight drive. The Army came out with an all fuel engine in the 1960s but I never drove one.
