Look up the IRS number in the blue pages, call them and ask what the deal is. It does sound a bit fishy, as if you made $500 more than reported, it isn't likely that the tax would be 100%. I'm aware of the recent political talk about raising taxes on the rich, but, 100%? I'ld also think that they would have asked for explaination, then make you pay if you don't have one.
