My brother's got a 550 w/ 1510 loader, and in all honesty, the rear end gets really light when he lifts anything with it. It's got pressed steel rears w/ fluid in the tires.
Our loader tractor is a Massey 165, and while it's been ridden hard and put away wet, it's a great loader tractor. The operator sits up a little higher, it's got Multi-Power, and it's got bigger rear tires with cast centers to help ballast the loader.
Both are gas, our's being the Continental vs. the later models with the Perkins gas. Nothing wrong with it, just seems like we get a funny look from our dealer everytime we specify when getting an oil filter.
I'd rather be pulling heavy loads with the 165 because it's a little bit heavier to handle a heavy wagon. Faster down the road too.
I am an Oliver guy and wouldn't mind having a 550 in my line up, but after having been on my brother's and seeing what they really are, I'll stick with the 165 for the loader. Was born & raised with Massey and Oliver, so have a soft spot for both. Either way you go you can't go wrong.
