If you think about what a solvent is then yes can be good or bad. Te worlds best universal solvent is simple H2O as in water so yep bad for an engine but then there are a lot of other solvents that are good and if used as they should be work well. Detergent oils have a solvent in them so are the bad heck no. If used the right way a solvent can be good if used the wrong way they can be bad
