IMHO flashers may be worse than nothing at all. With no lights the law is likely to pass you by. The second you put ANY lights on the rig, you need to be 100% DOT-compliant with stop, tail, turn, head, clearance, marker lights...
The flashing lights do nothing to improve safety. Scientific studies have shown that people ignore regular rhythmic flashing lights just as easily as no lights at all.
