If the alcohol is separating from the gasoline it is because there is too much water in it. About 3 Tablespoons of water per gallon of gasohol will cause separation.
I just started a car that had been setting since 2003 with 3/4 tank of ethanol fuel. With a fresh battery it started up with no problems. I have had no problems with the fuel getting old in vehicles that have sealed fuel systems. On my Super C just a few months and it wont start.
