I am in exactly the same situation as your are. 67 years old, 1 loving wife of 49 years, 2 grown children, eight really nice grandchildren, and no debt of any kind.
The one thing that my grandchildren are messing up on is college loans. College is outrageously more expensive today than it was when I attended, but back then, I paid my own way. I went nights and weekends. It took 10 years to earn a bachelors degree and four to earn a Masters, but I did it without any borrowing.
I can't convince my grandchildren to do that. They are resident students on big college campuses and they pay through the nose for tuition, books, dorm fees, parking fees, athletic tickets, etc. They have some scholarship money, but they're also borrowing.
