I think the thing there is the government trying to force the companies to make and sell (sell being the key word here) more fuel efficient cars. GM still has the government trying to pull it's strings after the bail out plus the government trying to force the production of certain types of cars. Only way you are going to get main stream Americans into little death box cars it to raise the price of gas. A certain sitting president wants to raise the taxes on gas for the same reason. He's been saying that sense he was running for the nomination.
