There could be several reasons for your problem. Autommotive compressors will not run if the pressure is too low. Being a Ford, it might be completely empty and a tall can would not be enuff to show up. When the switch on the clutch recognizes pressure you will start to heaR the clutch pull in(click) and release immediately. By adding enough freon the time between clutch pull in and dropout will be spaced further and further apart.== However, if no freon is the problem, you have a leak probably in the rubber seals Ford uses in every joint.
If the clutch switch is bad then you would not need freon and it could also bee the clutch itself. You can add 134 by dumping in several cans withoiut the car running Just hook the can up and turn it upside down. give it time to empty. Also add freon as close to the accumulator as possible (Large can type thing in the line) Also if you are going to try this mwthod add at least one dye containing can so you cab fund the leak easier. HTH Henry PS this is the same system as on my old Lincoln
