Back during the hey day of picking ear corn and storing it in a CORN CRIB there was two companies that made his type of a sheller.In Iowa both were common. John Deere and Minni Moline. The drag elevator unit would be placed along the crib and some of the side would be remove or was designed to open up and let the ear corn drop ito the elevator and up into the sheller. When I was a kid up in Iowa individuals would own them like a threashing machine and go around the community in the winter shelling corn. Some were mounted on truck using a PTO drive other were driven by a long drive belt and tractor a lot of farmers would have government loans on the corn and it had to be shelled to be delivered They could really eat up the corn. Some of the cobs were stored in a dry place to be used as starter for the wood in the cook stove. The first job young children was given was to bring some cobs so the fire could be started to cook breakfast. gitrib
