The on-land tire needs extra weight compared to the furrow tire. This is because: 1. the in-furrow tire has better soil conditions to bite into, and 2. the tractor is tilted towards the furrow, shifting some tractor weight to the furrow wheel.
Plow manufacturers recommended moving one or two 140 pound wheel weights from the in furrow wheel to the on-land wheel to equalize the traction. A dual tire weights 300 to 700 pounds. It was less work to leave the left hand dual in place rather than move two wheel weights.
