Does this thing have a torque converter or is it direct drive with power shift, like a 500 crawler? Either way, it sounds like a suction leak, cause intermittent clutch apply. Yes, the slippage is bad as it will smoke the clutches.If it were a converter problem,(if it has one) I don't think the problem would come and go as you describe. They get excessive clearance and just stay gutless all the time. I doubt steering it with the brakes while backdragging caused any problems.You need to get some of these leaks fixed. Also, find a manual and find out how to do pressure checks on the hydra shuttle. If you've serviced the trans, that's your next move. Fritz.
