Had the same problem this year. Normally, coons knock over the stalk but this year my problem was the critters eating the ear on the upright stalk. Never had one knock over. Put up my electric fence with the wires close to the ground and still the problem continued. I fried a couple of squirrels earlier in the season with the fence but did not stop the corn problem.
