werent you on a septic system as i recall?why not simply fix the holes where they are getting in it?you got to have a place somewhere they are getting in.its not like a big city where rats have a perfect home in the miles and miles of sewers.go to a plumbing supply house and ask for some lead wool, pack it around all your pipes where they come through the floor and you would likely stop a lot of them.put a screen over your vent pipes on roof to stop them from entering there.you could put a back flow preventor on your line ,but you'll probably wind up having a lot of trouble with stoppages.walk your lateral lines, guarantee theres a hole somewhere if they are entering there, its a sealed system otherwise except for roof vents.vents are where most critters get in.
