Good deal, that means you don't have to deal with removing a load of metal trash from the system. On an AC repair site I use, the "Experts" who make their living repairing AC systems, said that on a R12 to R134a conversion, you may under some conditions be better off if you do not flush the system.
The thinking at that time was, that if a compressor has failed and loaded the system with metal trash, you have no choice but to flush the system. The other side of it was that if the compressor is in good shape, the system will be relativly clean. In that case, the interior of the old non barrier hoses are pretty well sealed by years of mineral oil flowing through them, making it much easier to keep R134a in the system, as that old oil impregnated rubber makes a pretty good stopleak. Flushing the system removes some of that old mineral oil from the hoses and can make them more "leaky" when R134a refrigerant is used.
