I'm glad the fawn ran away. It broke my heart and gave me a sick feeling in my stomach, but earlier in the year I hit two fawns in my hay field with my sickle bar mower. In both cases it cut their feet off. I had to shoot them with my rifle to put them out of their misery.
It's virtually impossible to see them in tall grass in time to stop the mower.
