Well......it depends what you want to haul of course. I have 2"x4" square tube cross braces at about 2' centers as that is what I had and it is also strong even though it is only about 1/8" thickness. The top bar is 2"x2"x1/8" angle iron. The floor is only 18 gauge as I wanted to keep this trailer lightweight. If you want to keep the floor very straight when you weld on it or if you plan to drop things on it then you better use 1/8" (about 10 gauge)thick sheets, or thicker, and maybe drop to 16" or 12" centers under it.
I wanted to keep this thing at about 500 lbs. total....need to see where I ended up! (It should be close.)
