You'll never believe! A friend found another person posted the same problem on another tractor forum. After six pages of suggestions he drilled an 1/8" hole 1/4" deep in the molded positive battery cable clamp into the copper wire. Inserted his multi-meter probe and found resistance. Must have been an internal crack, corrosion, etc. Lopped off the clamp and installed a new one and fired right up. I had the same problem so good to go.
