The manuals for a JD 4040 and JD 4010 are completely different. The best are the originals from JD. After market IT manuals are OK for simple repairs. They are for sale on this web site.

I have both types of manuals. The factory ones are nice if you can justify them. I usually have the factory one on things I work on a lot, such as a JD 4020. The things I don"t see much of I have the IT manuals. I have a complete set of the IT manuals from the letter series thru the 55 series. I bought them about fifteen years ago for about $400. Some time you can find them on Ebay. I included the manual numbers so you can check.
