I hated Mac, until I got one 6 years ago. Since then I've moved 5 of my family members over. My "helpline" calls have dramatically shrunk after the first couple of months of adjusting.
You pay a bit more, but the machines are pretty well built. My first laptop I drove over with my truck when it was 5 months old. Broke the screen and squeezed the CD loading slot closed. I used it for 5 more years and only stopped as the hard drive was full and the battery nearly worn out. Wasn't going to put any money into it.
It was just as fast as when I bought it and ran top notch.
