I have six abuttors including a church. All my property lines are bounded by substantial stone walls. At one time or another, every abuttor has committed an encroachment by dumping onto my land.
A couple of years ago, I was bush hogging at least 20 feet inside of my boundary and managed to cut an "invisible" dog fence. I later saw that the abuttor had tied a knot in the wire to "restore its function".
I once did a boundary survey for the Corps of Engineers at one of their flood control dams. They owned 2800 acres on both sides of the river for 5 miles upstream. Much of it was on high ground and many feet above the dam spillway. Every vector had a bronze medallion on a concrete post (or did at one point). The trees were painted with slashes and tall fiberglass markers were placed every 100 feet in cleared areas. At least half the abuttors had committed encroachments or had obliterated the boundary markers.
