Hey atleast you have timing marks on the gears. I am at the same stage with a standard diesel, the British 4 before the Perkins 3 came out. There are no timing marks, just the direction of the keyway, the position fo #4 cam lobes, holy macrel. I am figuring on not putting any of the front end together incase I am off a tooth- or whatever might be my fault. Once it seems to fire OK, I will shut it down and put on the timing cover, pulley and water pump. I got very little out of the I&T on this subject, compare to how acurate it needs to be. good luck with yours.
