Also do not oversize a "1 wire" alternator, Many replace a 20 amp 6V generator with a 61 amp "1 wire" 12V alternator. Thats a totally unnecessary 600% increase in charging capacity.
A 37 amp "1 wire" Delco will excite at 1/2 the rpm of a 61 amp "1 wire" alt. The 37 amp alt is still several times the wattage of the original 6V generator, so no need to go to a large "1 wire" alternator that needs much higher rpm to excite.
